Our Experience

Ukrainian Village HVAC has been delivering comfort solutions to customers for over 20 years. Through this time, we have serviced, repaired, and installed various numbers and different kinds of heating systems. In our area, they can be classified by source of heat – natural gas which is a main source or electric and heat distribution methods that include forced air, hydronic, and fairly new mini split units and hybrid systems that will include mix mentioned methods.

How Forced Air Systems Work

Forced air system usually consist of furnace, duct work and temperature controller – thermostat. When temperature dropped 1 degree lower than temperature setting thermostat calls for heat and sends signal to furnace. Circuits board revises a signal and fires up the burners. After short delay it turns the blower motor on forcing the colder room air thru hot furnace heat exchanger. Air warms up and travels thru duct work to rooms supply registers warming up air in the room. After that air moves to return register and thru the filter goes back to heat exchanger. Cycle repeats till temperature in the room reaches thermostat setting and thermostat turns the furnace off.

Furnace Efficiency and Types

This system delivers reliable heating in different levels of efficiency and comfort. Older systems mostly come with 80% efficiency which means that 20% of burned gas is lost thru metal flu pipe making it 400F hot. Newer systems come with a range of 90 to 98% efficiency and usually called hi efficiency furnace. Furnaces can also be divided by comfort level and firing rate – single stage, two stage and modulating.

• Single Stage Furnace: Works with constant full power rate.
• Two Stage Furnace: Starts at 60% of fire and works for 7-15 minutes with lower blower speed. If thermostat set temperature isn't reached, it fires full power till satisfied.
• Modulating Furnace: Starts at 30% fire and slow speed, slowly increasing power and blower speed till thermostat is satisfied.

Our customer favorites include the Lennox Elite EL297 (two-stage) and the Lennox SLP 99 modulating furnace, recognized as the best on the market.

Maintenance and Zoning

Forced air system require on time filter change, battery change and furnace maintenance which will help to prevent furnace repairs and possibly avoid emergency furnace repair or same day furnace installation. As option forced air system can be zoned to provide different comfort settings in separate areas. This system has additional duct work, zone dampers and zone control penal, additional thermostats and two stage or modulating furnace. In our area duplex down condo is a great example of zoning system providing even temperature in basement and first floor. Hydronic Heating Systems

Hydronic heating is energy efficient, quiet and very comfortable systems. Boiler heats the water and pump pumps water to radiators or floor tubing. There are two different kind of boilers - natural draft which is 80 percent efficient and most of the the time cast iron or rarely copper heat exchanger and condensing boiler with up to 95% efficiency. Cast iron would be mostly used for cast iron radiators or baseboard radiators and modulating for radiant heated floors since temperature of the water is much lower.
